NBA Allstars II

This exercise examines numerical summaries of heights (in inches and centimeters) of 10 famous basketball players. Click on Data under Chapter 1 in the left panel and then select Open remote ... under the File menu in the right panel. Select allstars.xml from the Open File Dialog and click OK. Note that both Inches and Centimeters are assigned the Y role by default, whereas Starnames is assigned the Label role.

1. Select y|z from the Graph menu (conditioning z variables are not assigned here). The bottom panel in each histogran displays the sample mean, the sample standard deviation, and other numerical summaries. What is the ratio of: Mean height in centimeters/Mean height in inches? What does this value represent?
2. What is the ratio of: Standard deviation of height in centimeters/Standard deviaion of height in inches? What does this value represent?
3. Select Quantile Plot from the Plot menu for both the Inches and Centimeters histograms. Look at the panel at the bottom of the graph windows. What is the ratio: Median height in centimeters/Median height in inches? What does this value represent?
